In social studies today we learned about the word goods. Goods are anything that are made or grown in a place. Some examples are books, cars, clothing, potatoes and oranges. We learned that a good that India is famous for is its brightly colored fabric. Next week we will learn about natural resources and services in India. We will also begin our research projects on specific topics about India.
Ms. Binks gave us a review quiz on everything we have learned in math so far. We were unable to finish our quizzes so we will continue them next week.
This afternoon we learned about another traditional celebration called Ukrainian Christmas. Here are some things we learned:
- It is on January 7
- January 7 to 14 is known as Saint Christmas week
- People go caroling and visiting to other homes. Visitors can be rewarded with food, drinks, sweets and money (but only if you are a child!)
- December 6 is Christmas Eve and families have a special dinner called the "blessed supper"
- They do not eat meat during this meal
- There are 12 different types of food dishes
- Sometimes people put hay on the table to represent the manger of Jesus
- You do not get gifts on Ukrainian Christmas
We started some art to go with what we learned about Ukrainian Christmas but did not have time to finish it today. We will be completing it and bringing it home on Monday.
Reminders:
- We have library on Tuesday, please remember to return your books!
- Gymnastics starts on Monday. Please read the message from Mr. Sadowsky (posted separately)
