We have been working hard over the past few days on gathering information to answer our research questions on a topic about India or Alberta. There is a separate blog post with a list of websites that students can use to research at school or at home. We will be continuing to gather information for the rest of the week before we move into the organization of this information. During organization, students will have an opportunity to plan how they would like to present what they have found. We will be discussing all of the options for presentations next week.
We continued to work on multiplication by looking at multiplying by 2s. We shaded in a hundreds chart by counting by 2s and talked about patterns we saw. We realized that when you are multiplying by 2 you are actually just doubling a number (or adding that number to itself). So if we know that
2 + 2 = 4 then we know that 2 x 2 = 4
We used skip counting by 2s and addition to help us solve multiplication problems. We also noticed that whenever you multiply a number by 2 the answer will always be an even number.
Ask me to show you how to use addition or skip counting to solve these questions:
a) 2 x 7
b) 10 x 2
c) 76 x 2
d) 2 x 433
The spelling words have been posted in a separate post. Please make sure you are practicing!!
Reminders:
- Gymnastics continues all week
- Spelling test on Monday
- Early dismissal is on Friday. There will NOT be a Pillars of Care assembly due to the gymnastics equipment being set up in the gym. It will take place later this month
