We have started art projects based around room 9's love of reading! After much discussion, we decided that we would create a giant book that you could read. Each of us are responsible for creating our own page that showcases all different items around reading. Some things that we have been adding onto our pages include:
- pictures of our favourite books
- pictures of us reading
- book covers we have re-created
- quotes from books
- words about reading
- a list of books
We are hoping to display our completed giant book somewhere in the school.
To continue our work on structures, we were given a challenge. In groups of 4, we had to create the tallest, strongest structure out of spaghetti that would hold the weight of one marshmallow. We were allowed to use 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 meter of tape, 1 meter of string and one marshmallow. We only had 18 minutes to build. Lots of us found this challenging because the spaghetti kept breaking. The most successful structure was 36 cm tall and was shaped like a tipi. Here are some pictures of us building:
Today we had to record some observations we had during this activity, along with reflections on what we did well and what we could have improved on. We may retry this activity once we have built our knowledge on strong shapes and models in buildings.
In math we have been playing a game called Around the World where we try to be the person who answers multiplication questions the fastest. Some of us are still using fingers and counting for our 1s and 2s facts. It would be a great idea to practice facts from 0x12 all the way to 8x12.
Our new spelling words have been posted. We will be having our spelling tests next Wednesday. Make sure you practice!!
Reminders:
- Please make sure you are dressing appropriately for the weather. Lots of students came to school today in runners with no jacket, mitts or hats.
- Spelling test on Wednesday
